Description

A flavorful and tender pork shoulder braised in apple cider, perfect for a comforting meal.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 34 lbs pork shoulder
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 apples, sliced
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 300°F (150°C).
  2. In a large Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium-high heat.
  3. Season the pork shoulder with salt and pepper, then sear on all sides until browned.
  4. Remove the pork and set aside. In the same pot, add onions and garlic, sautéing until softened.
  5. Pour in the apple cider and scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pot.
  6. Add the pork back to the pot along with thyme, sliced apples, and chicken broth.
  7. Cover and transfer to the oven, braising for 3-4 hours until the pork is tender.
  8. Remove from the oven and let rest before slicing. Serve with the braising liquid.

Notes

  • For a sweeter flavor, use a sweeter variety of apple cider.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • This dish pairs well with mashed potatoes or crusty bread.
