Description

A traditional recipe for making authentic Turkish Delight, also known as Lokum, featuring a chewy texture and a variety of flavors.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon rosewater or orange blossom water
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Cook over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch with 1 cup of water and stir until smooth.
  3. Slowly add the cornstarch mixture to the sugar syrup, stirring constantly.
  4. Add lemon juice and cream of tartar, and continue to cook while stirring until the mixture thickens.
  5. Once thickened, remove from heat and stir in rosewater or orange blossom water and nuts if using.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased pan and let it cool for several hours or overnight.
  7. Once set, cut into squares and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
