- 4 large yams, peeled and cut into slices
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large pot, combine the yams, brown sugar, butter, water, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Transfer the yams and sauce to a baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, basting occasionally with the sauce.
- Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a splash of bourbon to the sauce.
