- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
Instructions
- In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine butter, sugar, water, and salt.
- Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture reaches a boil.
- Continue to cook without stirring until the mixture reaches a deep amber color (about 300°F or 150°C).
- Remove from heat and pour the toffee onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot toffee and let them melt for a few minutes.
- Spread the melted chocolate evenly over the toffee.
- If desired, sprinkle chopped nuts on top of the chocolate.
- Allow to cool completely before breaking into pieces.
