Description

Classic Tiramisu is a traditional Italian dessert made with layers of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a rich mascarpone cheese mixture, topped with cocoa powder.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 1/2 cup coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until pale and creamy.
  2. Add milk to the egg mixture and cook over low heat, stirring constantly until thickened.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  4. In a separate bowl, whip heavy cream until stiff peaks form.
  5. Fold mascarpone cheese into the cooled egg mixture, then gently fold in the whipped cream.
  6. In a shallow dish, combine coffee and coffee liqueur.
  7. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture and layer them in a serving dish.
  8. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  9. Repeat the layers with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
  10. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  11. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.

Notes

  • For a stronger coffee flavor, use espresso instead of brewed coffee.
  • Make sure not to soak the ladyfingers for too long to prevent them from becoming soggy.
  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the coffee liqueur.
