- 1 can (14 oz) sauerkraut, drained
- 6 slices of bacon, chopped
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a skillet, cook the chopped bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove and drain on paper towels.
- In the same skillet, sauté the chopped onion until translucent.
- In a large bowl, combine the drained sauerkraut, cooked bacon, sautéed onion, brown sugar, cheddar cheese, sour cream, black pepper, and garlic powder.
- Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until bubbly and golden on top.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon and use a plant-based alternative.
- Feel free to adjust the amount of brown sugar to taste.
