Description

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup dried fruit (raisins, cranberries, etc.)
  • 1/4 cup chopped nuts (walnuts, pecans, etc.)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, warm the milk and dissolve the yeast in it.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. Add the softened butter, eggs, and yeast mixture to the dry ingredients.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
  5. Incorporate the dried fruit and nuts into the dough.
  6. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  7. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
  8. Place the loaf in a greased bread pan and let it rise again for 30 minutes.
  9. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Let cool before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a sweeter bread, add more sugar to the dough.
