Ingredients

  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon rosewater or orange blossom water
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Stir over medium heat until sugar dissolves.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix cornstarch, lemon juice, and cream of tartar with 1 cup of water until smooth.
  3. Slowly add the cornstarch mixture to the sugar syrup, stirring constantly.
  4. Cook the mixture over low heat, stirring continuously until it thickens and turns a golden color.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in rosewater or orange blossom water.
  6. Pour the mixture into a greased pan and let it cool for several hours or overnight.
  7. Once set, cut into squares and dust with powdered sugar before serving.
