- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 4 cups peeled and sliced apples
- 1/2 cup raisins (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon.
- Add the softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.
- Fold in the sliced apples and raisins (if using) until evenly distributed.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- While the cake is baking, prepare the custard sauce by whisking together 2 cups of milk, 3 egg yolks, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch in a saucepan over medium heat until thickened.
- Once the cake is done, let it cool for a few minutes before serving with the warm custard sauce.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use a mix of sweet and tart apples.
- Serve the cake warm or at room temperature.
