Description

A delightful Irish dessert featuring layers of buttery bread soaked in a rich custard, topped with a boozy whiskey sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 slices of day-old bread
  • 4 tablespoons of butter
  • 2 cups of milk
  • 1 cup of heavy cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3/4 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup of raisins
  • 1/2 cup of Irish whiskey
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Butter the bread slices on both sides and cut them into triangles.
  3. Layer half of the bread in a greased baking dish, sprinkle with raisins, and then layer the remaining bread on top.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together the milk, cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and cinnamon.
  5. Pour the custard mixture over the bread layers, ensuring all pieces are soaked.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes until the custard is set and the top is golden brown.
  7. While the pudding is baking, prepare the whiskey sauce by combining whiskey and brown sugar in a saucepan over medium heat until the sugar dissolves.
  8. Serve the pudding warm, drizzled with the boozy whiskey sauce.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use brioche or challah bread.
  • Let the pudding sit for a few minutes before serving to allow it to set.
  • Adjust the amount of whiskey in the sauce according to your preference.
