- 4 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 1/4 cup sunflower seeds
- 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large bowl, mix together the whole wheat flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the rolled oats, sunflower seeds, and pumpkin seeds to the flour mixture.
- Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk.
- Stir until a dough forms, then turn it out onto a floured surface.
- Knead gently for a minute, then shape into a round loaf.
- Place the loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Cut a deep cross on the top of the loaf.
- Bake for 30-35 minutes or until the bread sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
- Let cool on a wire rack before slicing.
Notes
- For a nuttier flavor, you can add chopped nuts to the dough.
- This bread is best enjoyed fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a few days.
