A delicious and traditional Mexican dessert made with bread, syrup, and various toppings.
Ingredients

- 4 cups of bolillo or French bread, cubed
- 2 cups of milk
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1/2 cup of raisins
- 1/2 cup of chopped pecans or walnuts
- 1/2 cup of shredded coconut
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup of butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the milk, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
- Add the cubed bread to the mixture and let it soak for about 15 minutes.
- Stir in the raisins, nuts, and coconut.
- Pour the mixture into a greased baking dish.
- Drizzle the melted butter on top.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown and set.
- Let it cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream or whipped cream.
- Can be made a day in advance and reheated.
- Feel free to add other toppings like chocolate chips or fresh fruit.
