- 1 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the flour and salt, mixing until a dough forms.
- Press the dough into the bottom of a greased 9×9 inch baking pan.
- Bake for 20 minutes or until lightly golden.
- In a saucepan, combine the sweetened condensed milk, brown sugar, and corn syrup. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens.
- Pour the caramel mixture over the baked shortbread layer and spread evenly.
- In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips and stir in the vanilla extract.
- Pour the melted chocolate over the caramel layer and spread evenly.
- Allow to cool completely before cutting into squares.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use dark chocolate instead of semi-sweet.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
- Chill in the refrigerator for easier cutting.
