Description

My First Rosca de Reyes is a delightful and traditional pastry enjoyed during the celebration of Epiphany, symbolizing the arrival of the Three Wise Men.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup candied fruits (for decoration)
  • 1 small plastic figurine (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients.
  4. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, about 10 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  7. Shape the dough into a ring and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Let the dough rise again for 30 minutes.
  9. Decorate the top with candied fruits and place the figurine inside if using.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

  • Traditionally served on January 6th, the Day of the Kings.
  • Can be enjoyed with hot chocolate or coffee.
