Description

Delicious red velvet cinnamon rolls perfect for Valentine’s Day, topped with cream cheese frosting.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk, melted butter, egg, food coloring, and vanilla extract.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed.
  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle.
  6. Spread melted butter over the dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
  7. Roll the dough tightly and cut into rolls.
  8. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for 30 minutes.
  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  10. For the frosting, beat cream cheese, powdered sugar, and milk until smooth.
  11. Spread frosting over warm rolls and serve.

  • For a richer flavor, add a pinch of nutmeg to the filling.
  • These rolls can be made ahead and frozen before baking.
