Description

A delightful and easy-to-make soft Amish white bread recipe that you will want to bake repeatedly.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine warm water and sugar, then sprinkle yeast on top. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add melted butter and salt to the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased loaf pan.
  7. Cover and let it rise again for about 30-45 minutes.
  8. Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 30-35 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool before slicing.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, you can replace some of the water with milk.
  • This bread can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
