Description

Toffee Apple Pie is a delicious dessert that combines the sweetness of toffee with the tartness of apples, creating a perfect balance of flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups of all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1/4 cup of sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon of salt
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons of ice water
  • 4 cups of sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup of toffee bits
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until the mixture forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
  4. Roll out the dough on a floured surface and fit it into a pie pan.
  5. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, and toffee bits.
  6. Pour the apple mixture into the pie crust.
  7. Cover with a top crust, seal edges, and cut slits for steam to escape.
  8. Brush the top with beaten egg.
  9. Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 30-35 minutes until apples are soft and crust is golden brown.
  10. Let cool before serving.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a tablespoon of vanilla extract to the apple mixture.
  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream for an extra treat.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
