Instructions
- In a large pot, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent.
- Add the tomato puree, vegetable broth, dried basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Bring to a simmer.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, and a pinch of salt. In another bowl, whisk together the milk and egg.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients, then fold in the shredded cheese to form a dough.
- Drop spoonfuls of the cheese dumpling mixture into the simmering soup.
- Cover and cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until the dumplings are cooked through.
