Description

Turkish Baklava (Fistikli Baklava) is a delightful pastry made of layers of filo dough filled with chopped pistachios and sweetened with syrup.


Ingredients

  • 1 package of filo dough
  • 2 cups of chopped pistachios
  • 1 cup of melted butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease a baking dish with melted butter.
  3. Layer half of the filo dough in the dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
  4. Spread the chopped pistachios evenly over the filo layers.
  5. Layer the remaining filo dough on top, again brushing each layer with melted butter.
  6. Cut the baklava into diamond or square shapes.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.
  8. While the baklava is baking, prepare the syrup by boiling sugar, water, vanilla extract, and lemon juice together for about 10 minutes.
  9. Once the baklava is done, pour the syrup over it while it is still hot.
  10. Let it cool before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to keep the filo dough covered with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out.
  • You can substitute pistachios with walnuts or almonds if desired.
  • Baklava can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
