Description
A delightful and classic apple pie recipe that combines sweet and tart apples with a flaky crust, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 to 8 apples (Granny Smith and Honeycrisp recommended)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 package of pie crusts (or homemade)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin pieces.
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with granulated sugar, brown sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and flour. Toss until the apples are well coated.
- Roll out one pie crust and place it in a pie dish.
- Fill the crust with the apple mixture and dot with butter.
- Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Seal and flute the edges, then cut slits in the top crust for steam to escape.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35-45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the crust is golden brown.
- Let the pie cool before serving.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of vanilla extract to the apple mixture.
- Serve with vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
- Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
