Description

A delicious and comforting dessert featuring a flaky crust filled with spiced apples and served with a scoop of ice cream.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, chilled and diced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 6 to 8 tablespoons ice water
  • 6 cups thinly sliced apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in ice water, a tablespoon at a time, until mixture forms a ball. Wrap in plastic and refrigerate for 4 hours or overnight.
  4. Roll out half of the dough to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place the bottom crust in the pie plate.
  5. In another bowl, toss apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Pour into the crust and dot with butter.
  6. Roll out the remaining dough and place over the filling. Seal and cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35 to 45 minutes, until apples are soft and crust is golden brown.
  8. Let cool before serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use a mix of sweet and tart apples.
  • Serve warm for the best experience.
