- 1 packet active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup baking soda
- 1 large egg, beaten
- Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
- 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
Instructions
- In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until smooth.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
- Divide the dough into small pieces and shape them into pretzel bites.
- Boil the pretzel bites in the baking soda water for 30 seconds each.
- Place the boiled pretzel bites on the baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
- For the cheese dip, melt butter in a saucepan, add milk, and cheese, stirring until smooth.
- Serve the pretzel bites warm with cheese dip.
Notes
- For a festive touch, use red, white, and blue food coloring in the cheese dip.
- These pretzel bites can be made ahead of time and reheated before serving.
