Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and knead until smooth.
  3. Let the dough rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  4. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  5. In a pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a boil.
  6. Divide the dough into small pieces and shape them into pretzel bites.
  7. Boil the pretzel bites in the baking soda water for 30 seconds each.
  8. Place the boiled pretzel bites on the baking sheet, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
  10. For the cheese dip, melt butter in a saucepan, add milk, and cheese, stirring until smooth.
  11. Serve the pretzel bites warm with cheese dip.
